At the end of the day this is what it’s all about, love taking the little ones out! ‪#‎futureofsup‬ ‪#‎careofthisgrom‬

Two events just a week apart delivered pumping surf, a huge swell. and plenty of talent. Conditions at BOP combined chaos, challenge and plenty of drama. The weekend for the  Turtle Bay race was insane too, with overhead (plus) high surf all weekend and the worlds best competing in some very challenging seas! Our sport is growing faster than any other in the world. There’s gonna be some growing pains as the elite talent rise to higher levels and the events do too.

In a few years (even months, maybe) the details and performances at any particular event will be forgotten. New records, new accomplishments always keep us excited about all aspects of standup. The summer race season will move right into winter surf season, we’ll be trading our race boards for our surfboards. One thing we will be keeping in mind is how to develop our sport so the next generation can share the stoke we love.  The sport will need leaders who communicate, examine what’s happening, work together and look out for the next generation.

Leaders make mistakes along the journey of trying to do and be the best we can be. I definitely want the infrastructure of SUP in all aspects of the sport to be strong. Clean racing and fun is super important to me – and to paddlers at every level.  I hope you take the time to look at this video I did just after 2014 Battle of the Paddle and a few days before Turtle Bay.  I look forward to your questions or comments – and please feel free to SHARE the video. It’s on my YouTube channel – subscribe of you want to see everything as I post it.
